How do I change my email address?

Changing your email address takes three steps.

Steps:

  1. Open the Security page and tap the Email card.
  2. Type the new address you want to use. If your account has a password, confirm with your current password; this step is skipped only for accounts that sign in with Google (no password). You can make this change up to 3 times a month.
  3. For password-based accounts, we send the code straight to your new address; for password-free Google accounts, the code goes to your current address instead. The code is 6 digits, valid for 10 minutes, and you just type it into the box on the same page; there's no link to click.

The moment you enter the code correctly, sign-in switches to the new address; the old one no longer works.

Safety net:

  • We also send a notification to the address the code didn't go to (the old one for password-based accounts, the new one for Google accounts), so you'll notice if someone else tries to make the change.
  • Once the change is complete, your sessions on other devices are signed out; you stay signed in only on this device.

If the email doesn't arrive:

If you also want to change your password, you can use the Forgot my password flow; it works on similar logic.
